Nissan Skyline For Sale — Import From Japan
R32, R33, R34 — GT-R, GTS-t and 25GT Turbo
The Skyline is the car that built the JDM import market, and the one we are asked about most. The difference between a $20,000 Skyline and a $200,000 Skyline is the chassis code and two letters on the boot lid, so it is worth knowing exactly what you are looking at before you bid.
Which Skyline generation should you buy?
| Chassis | Years | Key variants | US import status |
|---|---|---|---|
| R32 | 1989–1994 | GT-R (BNR32), GTS-t Type M, GTS-4 | Eligible now |
| R33 | 1993–1998 | GT-R (BCNR33), GTS25t Type M | Eligible now |
| R34 | 1998–2002 | GT-R (BNR34), 25GT Turbo / 25GT-X Turbo (ER34) | Phasing in (through September 2001) |
Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today, anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. Within a generation marked “phasing in” some build dates are legal and others are not, so the individual car matters. Tell us the chassis and we will check its exact build date before you commit.
Skyline grades & special editions
GT-R versus the turbo six you can actually afford
Every generation offers a GT-R and a rear-drive turbo six below it. The GT-R gets the twin-turbo RB26DETT and ATTESA all-wheel drive. Below it sits the GTS-t Type M (R32), GTS25t Type M (R33) and 25GT Turbo (R34) — single-turbo RB20DET, RB25DET or RB25DET NEO, rear-wheel drive, and a fraction of the money.
For most buyers the non-GT-R car is the better purchase. It looks close enough that people ask, it drives better sideways, and the price gap is not 20% — it is often 5–10x. If you want the badge, budget accordingly; if you want to drive a Skyline, start with a Type M or a 25GT Turbo.
What we check before bidding
- Chassis rot at the rear arches and strut towers. The single most expensive thing to discover after landing.
- RB26 history on GT-Rs. Ask what boost it has seen. A stock-boost car with records is worth more than a big-power build with none.
- Real GT-R or converted. GTS-t cars wearing GT-R bodywork are common and legitimate — but they are not GT-Rs, and the VIN says so.
- ATTESA and HICAS function. Both are expensive to put right and easy for an auction sheet to stay quiet about.
What it costs to import a Skyline
The prices above are the vehicle in Japan. On top of that, budget roughly $3,000–$5,000 for ocean freight, standard export and import fees, US customs duty, and US title service. We quote all of it as one landed price — unlike exporters who advertise a to-port “shipped” price and leave you to hire your own customs broker. See the full cost breakdown.
Is the Skyline legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year, so within a single generation some build dates qualify before others. If the exact car you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

Is the Skyline you want legal yet? Our Nissan Skyline import guide breaks eligibility down by build month and works through what one costs landed and titled in the USA.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan — photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.
Nissan Skyline FAQ
Is the Nissan Skyline legal to import to the USA?
R32: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. R33: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. R34: Phasing in — cars built up to September 2001 are eligible now; the last cars qualify in August 2027. Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. If the exact car you want has not crossed 25 years yet, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it qualifies.
What is the cheapest Skyline to import?
An R32 GTS-t Type M is usually the cheapest way into a turbo Skyline, followed by the R33 GTS25t. Both are rear-wheel drive with a single-turbo RB, both are fully eligible, and both cost a small fraction of the equivalent GT-R.
How much does it cost to import a Skyline GT-R?
The car itself dominates the cost and varies enormously by generation and condition. On top of the purchase price, budget about $3,000–$5,000 for freight, export and import fees, US duty, and title — which we include in one quoted landed price.
