Toyota Supra For Sale — Import From Japan

A80 and A70 — 2JZ-GTE and 1JZ

The A80 Supra needs no introduction, and its price reflects that. What is less well known is that the Japanese market car differs from the US one in ways that matter — and that the A70 before it is still genuinely affordable.

Which Supra generation should you buy?

ChassisYearsKey variantsUS import status
A701986–19932.5GT Twin Turbo (1JZ-GTE), 3.0GTEligible now
A801993–2002RZ (2JZ-GTE twin turbo), SZ (2JZ-GE)Phasing in (through September 2001)

Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today, anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. Within a generation marked “phasing in” some build dates are legal and others are not, so the individual car matters. Tell us the chassis and we will check its exact build date before you commit.

JDM A80 versus the US car

The Japanese RZ is the twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE car. It was rated at 280 PS under Japan's gentlemen's agreement rather than the US car's 320 hp, largely a paperwork difference — the hardware is the same legendary bottom end. The SZ is the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE, and a great many affordable "Supras" are SZ cars.

The A80 ran to 2002, so later build dates are still becoming eligible month by month. If you want a Supra in your garage this year, the exact build date decides it — and we can buy and store a car in Japan until it qualifies.

The A70 2.5GT Twin Turbo is the overlooked one: 1JZ-GTE, rear-wheel drive, fully eligible, and a fraction of A80 money.

What we check before bidding

What it costs to import a Supra

The prices above are the vehicle in Japan. On top of that, budget roughly $3,000–$5,000 for ocean freight, standard export and import fees, US customs duty, and US title service. We quote all of it as one landed price — unlike exporters who advertise a to-port “shipped” price and leave you to hire your own customs broker. See the full cost breakdown.

Is the Supra legal to import?

Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year, so within a single generation some build dates qualify before others. If the exact car you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

Is the Supra you want legal yet? Our Toyota Supra import guide breaks eligibility down by build month and works through what one costs landed and titled in the USA.

How buying one from us works

We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan — photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

Toyota Supra FAQ

Is the Toyota Supra legal to import to the USA?

A70: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. A80: Phasing in — cars built up to September 2001 are eligible now; the last cars qualify in August 2027. Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies.

What is the difference between a Supra RZ and SZ?

RZ is the twin-turbo 2JZ-GTE car; SZ is the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE. The price gap is very large, and turbo bodykits on SZ cars are common, so the chassis number is what settles it.
