Nissan Skyline R33 For Sale — Import From Japan
Every version of the R33 has a straight six. It went on sale in August 1993 as a coupe and a sedan, longer and roomier than the R32. Engines start with the 2.0-liter single-cam RB20E in the base GTS. The GTS25 and the all-wheel-drive GTS-4 get the naturally aspirated RB25DE, and the GTS25t has the 250 PS RB25DET turbo with NVCS variable intake cam timing. Below the GT-R, the GTS25t Type M coupe is the one most buyers look for. The GT-R itself (BCNR33) arrived in January 1995 with the 280 PS RB26DETT and a five-speed manual. You could have it from launch in standard or V-spec form, and the V-spec added ATTESA E-TS Pro and an active rear limited-slip differential. In January 1996 a facelift (kouki) reshaped the exterior and made a passenger airbag standard. Standard cars were built until spring 1998, the GT-R until November 1998. Whatever R33 you're looking at, start with the strut towers and the trunk floor. Both hold water, and the trunk is where the battery lives.

What to check on a Skyline R33
- Look hard at the strut towers for corrosion or bulging. Water gets trapped between layers of metal there and rusts from the inside out.
- The trunk floor needs checking for damp and corrosion. Water gets past the trunk seal, and the R33 carries its battery at the back of the trunk.
- Crush damage on the jacking points under the sills, and corrosion on the hood, trunk lid and rear wheel arches.
- A GT-R must read BCNR33. ECR33 GTS25t cars fitted with GT-R bodywork are common, and they're a different car.
- A-LSD and SLIP lights in the tachometer mean the car has the active rear differential. It's standard on the GT-R V-spec and was optional on some GTS25t models.
- HICAS can leak or may have a lock-out kit fitted in its place. Listen too for turbo bearing noise and for crunching shifts that point to worn synchros.
What it costs to import a Skyline R33
The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.
Is the Skyline R33 legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact R33 you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

How long does it take to get a Nissan Skyline R33 from Japan?
Plan on about 45–60 days from purchase. The car is inspected and exported in Japan, spends 3–5 weeks at sea to your nearest US port (East Coast, West Coast, Gulf and Honolulu), and then goes through US customs, duty and title. We handle every step as your importer of record.
What do you check before buying a Nissan Skyline R33?
Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: Look hard at the strut towers for corrosion or bulging. Water gets trapped between layers of metal there and rusts from the inside out; The trunk floor needs checking for damp and corrosion. Water gets past the trunk seal, and the R33 carries its battery at the back of the trunk; Crush damage on the jacking points under the sills, and corrosion on the hood, trunk lid and rear wheel arches; A GT-R must read BCNR33. ECR33 GTS25t cars fitted with GT-R bodywork are common, and they're a different car.
GTS25t Type M or GT-R?
The GTS25t Type M runs a single-turbo 2.5-liter RB25DET, rated at 250 PS, through the rear wheels. The GT-R adds the twin-turbo RB26DETT at 280 PS, ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive, Brembo brakes and wider bodywork. Converted cars are common, so the chassis code (ECR33 versus BCNR33) is the reliable way to tell them apart.
Zenki or kouki R33: what changed in 1996?
January 1996 brought the R33 a major facelift, with substantially revised exterior styling and a passenger airbag made standard. ABS became standard in February 1997. Because bumpers and lights can be swapped, the build date on the plate is how you tell which version you've got.
What does V-spec add on the R33 GT-R?
You get ATTESA E-TS Pro all-wheel drive with an active rear limited-slip differential, plus firmer suspension and a lower ride height. It was offered from the GT-R's January 1995 launch, and rated output stays at the standard GT-R's 280 PS.
