Toyota Chaser For Sale — Import From Japan
JZX90 and JZX100 — the 1JZ-GTE Tourer V
The Chaser is a four-door saloon with a turbocharged 1JZ-GTE, rear-wheel drive and an available five-speed — which is why it became one of the most sought-after drift and daily platforms Japan ever built. It is also, quietly, one of the best-value JDM imports available today.
Which Chaser generation should you buy?
| Chassis | Years | Key variants | US import status |
|---|---|---|---|
| JZX90 | 1992–1996 | Tourer V (1JZ-GTE turbo), Tourer S | Eligible now |
| JZX100 | 1996–2001 | Tourer V (1JZ-GTE VVT-i), Tourer S | Eligible now |
Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today, anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. Within a generation marked “phasing in” some build dates are legal and others are not, so the individual car matters. Tell us the chassis and we will check its exact build date before you commit.
Chaser grades & special editions
Tourer V is the one
Tourer V is the turbocharged 1JZ-GTE car and the only trim most buyers should consider. Tourer S is the naturally aspirated 1JZ-GE, and the two look identical from outside. The JZX100 Tourer V added VVT-i and is generally the pick if you want the more modern car; the JZX90 is lighter and cheaper.
Both are fully eligible under the 25-year rule today, which puts the Chaser in rare company: a genuinely quick, genuinely usable JDM saloon you can import right now without waiting on a build date.
Chaser, Cresta or Mark II?
They are the same car underneath — the Toyota X-chassis triplets, sharing platform, drivetrain and chassis codes, differentiated by bodywork and dealer network. The Mark II is the volume seller and easiest to find; the Cresta is the plusher, rarer one. Buy on condition and trim rather than nameplate — a clean Cresta Tourer V is the same mechanical car as a clean Chaser Tourer V.
What we check before bidding
- Tourer V versus Tourer S, confirmed from the chassis code and the engine, not the badge.
- Manual versus automatic. Factory five-speed cars are much rarer and carry a real premium.
- Drift history. Many have been used hard; we look for repaired rails, welded diffs and cut arches.
- Rust in the sills, arches and boot floor.
What it costs to import a Chaser
The prices above are the vehicle in Japan. On top of that, budget roughly $3,000–$5,000 for ocean freight, standard export and import fees, US customs duty, and US title service. We quote all of it as one landed price — unlike exporters who advertise a to-port “shipped” price and leave you to hire your own customs broker. See the full cost breakdown.
Is the Chaser legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year, so within a single generation some build dates qualify before others. If the exact car you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

Is the Chaser you want legal yet? Our Toyota Chaser import guide breaks eligibility down by build month and works through what one costs landed and titled in the USA.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan — photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.
Toyota Chaser FAQ
Is the Toyota Chaser legal to import to the USA?
JZX90: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. JZX100: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies.
What is the difference between Tourer V and Tourer S?
Tourer V has the turbocharged 1JZ-GTE; Tourer S has the naturally aspirated 1JZ-GE. They are visually near-identical, so verify from the chassis code — a Tourer S sold as a "Tourer" is a common trap.
Is the Chaser the same as a Mark II or Cresta?
Mechanically, yes. Chaser, Cresta and Mark II are Toyota's X-chassis triplets — same platform, same JZX chassis codes, same drivetrains, different bodywork and dealer network. Choose on condition and trim rather than name.
