Nissan Silvia For Sale — Import From Japan
S13, S14, S15 — the SR20DET drift icon
The Silvia is the other pillar of JDM importing: rear-wheel drive, a tuner-friendly SR20DET, and a chassis the aftermarket has supported for thirty years. S13 and S14 are fully eligible; the S15 is still phasing in.
Which Silvia generation should you buy?
| Chassis | Years | Key variants | US import status |
|---|---|---|---|
| S13 | 1988–1993 | Q's, K's (SR20DET), and the 180SX fastback | Eligible now |
| S14 | 1993–1998 | Q's, K's — zenki and kouki front ends | Eligible now |
| S15 | 1999–2002 | Spec R (SR20DET, 6-speed), Spec S | Phasing in (through September 2001) |
Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today, anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. Within a generation marked “phasing in” some build dates are legal and others are not, so the individual car matters. Tell us the chassis and we will check its exact build date before you commit.

Which Silvia to buy
The S15 Spec R is the one everyone wants — 250 PS SR20DET, six-speed, the sharpest styling of the three — and it is priced accordingly. It is also the only one still phasing in under the 25-year rule, so the exact build month decides whether you can have it this year.
The S14 is the value pick. Same SR20DET, more space, and the kouki (1996–1998) facelift has aged well. The S13 is the cheapest entry and the lightest, but genuinely clean unmolested examples are getting hard to find — most have lived a hard life.
Watch the trim: K's is the turbo SR20DET car. Q's is the naturally aspirated SR20DE, and J's is the base car. A cheap "Silvia" is very often a Q's.
What we check before bidding
- Accident repair. These have been drifted. Auction sheets grade the panel, not the history behind it — an in-person inspection is what catches a straightened chassis rail.
- Engine originality. SR20DET swaps into Q's cars are extremely common. Not disqualifying, but it changes the value.
- Rust at the rear arches, sills, and battery tray.
- Interior completeness. Original seats, dash and trim are increasingly what separates a good car from an average one.
What it costs to import a Silvia
The prices above are the vehicle in Japan. On top of that, budget roughly $3,000–$5,000 for ocean freight, standard export and import fees, US customs duty, and US title service. We quote all of it as one landed price — unlike exporters who advertise a to-port “shipped” price and leave you to hire your own customs broker. See the full cost breakdown.
Is the Silvia legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year, so within a single generation some build dates qualify before others. If the exact car you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

Is the Silvia you want legal yet? Our Nissan Silvia import guide breaks eligibility down by build month and works through what one costs landed and titled in the USA.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan — photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.
Nissan Silvia FAQ
Is the Nissan Silvia legal to import to the USA?
S13: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. S14: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. S15: Phasing in — cars built up to September 2001 are eligible now; the last cars qualify in August 2027. Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. Because S15 eligibility is rolling, the individual car matters — tell us the chassis and we will confirm its exact build date before you commit.
What is the difference between a Silvia K's and Q's?
K's is the turbocharged SR20DET car and the one most buyers want. Q's is the naturally aspirated SR20DE, and J's is the base trim. Many cheap Silvias advertised abroad are Q's cars, sometimes with an SR20DET swapped in later.
Is the 180SX the same as a Silvia?
Mechanically yes — the 180SX is the S13 platform as a pop-up-headlight fastback, sold alongside the notchback Silvia in Japan. Same SR20DET drivetrain, different body. We import both.
