Toyota Chaser JZX90 For Sale — Import From Japan
With the fifth-generation JZX90, Toyota split the Chaser into a sporty Tourer line and a comfort-focused Avante line, and each got its own styling, trim and suspension tuning. The car launched in October 1992 together with the X90 Mark II and Cresta and was sold as a four-door hardtop until September 1996. Buyers look for the Tourer V, which has the twin-turbo 1JZ-GTE rated at 280 PS and drives the rear wheels through an R154 five-speed manual or an automatic. Clean, unmodified manual ones are scarce. The Tourer V's peak torque arrives at 4,800 rpm, where the single-turbo JZX100 that came next peaks at 2,400 rpm. The Tourer S runs the naturally aspirated 1JZ-GE, while the Avante G gets a 3.0-liter 2JZ-GE at 220 PS. Lower grades use 2.0-liter or 1.8-liter engines. Full-time four-wheel drive came to the 2.5-liter car in October 1993, and a minor facelift followed in September 1994.

What to check on a Chaser JZX90
- These early-1990s 1JZ-GTE engines have twin turbos. Check them for blue smoke and shaft play, and make sure boost builds cleanly. On early 1JZ-GTE turbos the turbine wheels are ceramic, and those are known to delaminate.
- Confirm it's a Tourer V from the engine and the grade on the model plate, rather than the badges or bodykit.
- Toyota offered the R154 five-speed as a factory option on the Tourer V. If the car is a manual, check that the full model code on the plate shows it left the factory that way.
- Welded differentials, rolled or cut arches, seam welding and repaired chassis rails all point to drift history.
- On a car now more than 30 years old, check the sills, rear arches and trunk floor for rust.
What it costs to import a Chaser JZX90
The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.
Is the Chaser JZX90 legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact JZX90 you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

What do you check before buying a Toyota Chaser JZX90?
Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: These early-1990s 1JZ-GTE engines have twin turbos. Is the JZX90 Tourer V twin-turbo?
It is. Toyota fitted the JZX90 Tourer V with the twin-turbo 1JZ-GTE and rated it at 280 PS, with 37.0 kgm of torque at 4,800 rpm. Its replacement, the JZX100, went to a single turbo with VVT-i.
What changed when the JZX90 was facelifted?
The September 1994 minor change brought a revised grille and bumpers, and a driver airbag became standard in 1995. When you pick one, condition, transmission and originality count for more than the build date.
Is a JZX90 Chaser the same as a JZX90 Mark II or Cresta?
Underneath, they're the same. The three share the X90 platform and engines, and you could buy a Tourer V with the twin-turbo 1JZ-GTE in each. Where they differ is body styling, trim and which dealer network sold them.
