Toyota Cresta For Sale — Import From Japan

JZX90 and JZX100 — the rarer X-chassis triplet

The Cresta is the least common of Toyota's X-chassis triplets and the most conservatively styled — the same 1JZ-GTE turbocharged rear-drive saloon as a Chaser, in a quieter suit.

Which Cresta generation should you buy?

JZX1001996–2001Tourer V (1JZ-GTE VVT-i), Super LucentEligible now

Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today, anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies. Within a generation marked “phasing in” some build dates are legal and others are not, so the individual car matters. Tell us the chassis and we will check its exact build date before you commit.

Why buy a Cresta over a Chaser

Mechanically there is no reason to prefer one over the other — they share a platform, chassis codes and drivetrains with the Chaser and Mark II. The reasons to choose a Cresta are that it is rarer on US roads, and that clean examples sometimes come cheaper simply because the name carries less recognition abroad.

As with its siblings, Tourer V is the turbo 1JZ-GTE trim; Super Lucent and similar names denote the naturally aspirated luxury cars.

What we check before bidding

What it costs to import a Cresta

The prices above are the vehicle in Japan. On top of that, budget roughly $3,000–$5,000 for ocean freight, standard export and import fees, US customs duty, and US title service. We quote all of it as one landed price — unlike exporters who advertise a to-port “shipped” price and leave you to hire your own customs broker. See the full cost breakdown.

Is the Cresta legal to import?

Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year, so within a single generation some build dates qualify before others. If the exact car you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

Is the Cresta you want legal yet? Our Toyota Cresta import guide breaks eligibility down by build month and works through what one costs landed and titled in the USA.

How buying one from us works

We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan — photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

Toyota Cresta FAQ

Is the Toyota Cresta legal to import to the USA?

JZX90: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. JZX100: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today anything built September 2001 or earlier qualifies.

Is a Cresta the same as a Chaser?

Underneath, yes — Cresta, Chaser and Mark II are the same Toyota X-chassis car with different bodywork and dealer networks. A Cresta Tourer V has the same 1JZ-GTE and rear-wheel drive as a Chaser Tourer V.
