Subaru Impreza GD For Sale — Import From Japan

Buyers use three names for the GD, because Subaru restyled its front twice. Bugeye cars are applied models A and B. Blobeye covers C to E, from November 2002, and hawkeye covers F and G, from June 2005. The GD is the second-generation Impreza sedan (the wagon is the GG), sold in Japan from August 2000 to June 2007, and it moved to a wider body with blistered fenders, 1,730 mm across at launch. There's a 250 PS turbocharged EJ20 in the WRX NB (GDA), with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, and the WRX NA (GD9) is a 155 PS non-turbo. The WRX STi (GDB) launched in October 2000 with a 280 PS EJ20 and a new six-speed manual, and it wasn't offered with anything else. Above it sit the lightweight spec C and STi's limited S202, S203 and S204. Every WRX sedan is all-wheel drive. STi cars changed in detail through the run, including an equal-length exhaust manifold from the C update and a larger wheel bolt circle from E.

What to check on a Impreza GD

What it costs to import a Impreza GD

The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.

Is the Impreza GD legal to import?

Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact GD you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

How buying one from us works

We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

As for the 35 still too new, we can buy one now and store it in Japan until it qualifies. Month and year of manufacture are what count, and we check the exact build date before you commit.

How long does it take to get a Subaru Impreza GD from Japan?

Plan on about 45–60 days from purchase. The car is inspected and exported in Japan, spends 3–5 weeks at sea to your nearest US port (East Coast, West Coast, Gulf and Honolulu), and then goes through US customs, duty and title. We handle every step as your importer of record.

What do you check before buying a Subaru Impreza GD?

Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: A six-speed, STi badges and a tall wing can all be fitted to a GDA, so let the model code on the plate decide. GDA is the 250 PS WRX NB, and GDB is the STi; Find out how the car has been tuned and by whom. Ask for a compression or leak-down test too, and check for oil consumption and smoke; The WRX NB keeps a five-speed from the previous generation, so check it for synchro wear and noise. Subaru designed the STi's six-speed to be stronger than that old five-speed; Hubs, wheels and brakes should match the car's build. STi cars went from 100 mm to 114.3 mm wheel PCD with the E update in June 2004.

Bugeye, blobeye or hawkeye?

Those are the GD's three front-end styles. Bugeye covers the A and B applied models, from August 2000 to the November 2002 update. Blobeye is C to E, and hawkeye is F and G, from June 2005. On STi cars the changes went past styling, with an equal-length exhaust manifold in the C update and stronger front hubs and the 114.3 mm wheel bolt pattern in the E update.

WRX NB or WRX STi?

The STi (GDB) has a 280 PS STi-tuned EJ20, and a six-speed manual was the only gearbox it was sold with. With the NB (GDA) you get a 250 PS turbocharged EJ20 and either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The spec C is a lighter, competition-oriented STi.

What are the S202, S203 and S204?

All three are limited STi complete cars built on the GDB, each rated 320 PS with STi-specific suspension and equipment. The S202 (2002, 400 cars) was based on the spec C, and the S203 and S204 (600 cars) that came after it used the regular STi as their base.
