Nissan Fairlady Z Z32 For Sale — Import From Japan
Nissan announced the Z32 Fairlady Z in July 1989 and built it until August 2000. Every one has a 3.0-liter V6. It's either the naturally aspirated VG30DE (230 PS) or the VG30DETT twin turbo (280 PS), and the twin turbo was the first Japanese car rated at that figure. You'll find short-wheelbase two-seaters with a solid roof or T-tops, and the longer 2by2, which only came with T-tops. A two-seater convertible followed in August 1992. Twin-turbo cars have Super HICAS rear steering, hydraulic at first and electric from August 1993. Japanese-market grades included Version S from October 1994 and Version R from January 1997. The October 1998 facelift brought a new front bumper and rear spoiler and red badging, and twin turbos got xenon headlights as standard. Cars sold in Japan are right-hand drive and carry the Fairlady Z name. Most buyers ask for a manual twin-turbo two-seater, and on one of those, heat damage in the crowded engine bay is the first thing to check.

What to check on a Fairlady Z Z32
- The twin-turbo engine bay is poorly ventilated, and the heat breaks parts down. Look for brittle wiring, cracked vacuum lines and hoses, and oil leaks.
- Get the timing belt history on the VG30. The belt is commonly replaced every 60,000 miles or seven years.
- On T-top cars, shrunken seals and blocked drains at the B-pillar and windshield let water in behind the seats and into the footwells.
- Early hydraulic Super HICAS systems leak with age and show a warning light on the dash. Electric actuation from August 1993 avoids this.
- After a crash, the nose panel, hood, bumper and headlights are hard to align, so check the gaps and use a paint meter.
- The fuel filler gives away the body style in photos. A two-seater has it between the door and rear wheel, and a 2by2 has it behind the rear wheel.
What it costs to import a Fairlady Z Z32
The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.
Is the Fairlady Z Z32 legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact Z32 you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

What do you check before buying a Nissan Fairlady Z Z32?
Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: The twin-turbo engine bay is poorly ventilated, and the heat breaks parts down. Look for brittle wiring, cracked vacuum lines and hoses, and oil leaks; Get the timing belt history on the VG30. The belt is commonly replaced every 60,000 miles or seven years; On T-top cars, shrunken seals and blocked drains at the B-pillar and windshield let water in behind the seats and into the footwells; Early hydraulic Super HICAS systems leak with age and show a warning light on the dash. Electric actuation from August 1993 avoids this.
Two-seater or 2by2?
A two-seater rides on a 2,450 mm wheelbase and came with a solid roof or T-tops. The 2by2 stretches that to 2,570 mm, adds small rear seats and was T-top only. From the outside, the quickest tell is the fuel filler. It's between the door and rear wheel on a two-seater and behind the rear wheel on a 2by2.
Twin turbo or non-turbo?
Twin-turbo cars use the VG30DETT, rated at 280 PS, and they also get Super HICAS rear steering. The non-turbo VG30DE is rated at 230 PS. It does without the twin turbos, twin intercoolers and extra plumbing that crowd the twin-turbo engine bay. Nissan lists the convertible with the non-turbo engine.
What changed in the October 1998 facelift?
Nissan gave it a revised front bumper and rear spoiler and added side sill protectors. The front ornament and the rear 300ZX lettering turned red, and xenon headlights became standard on twin-turbo cars. Body rigidity was improved as well. Production ended in August 2000.
