Nissan Fairlady Z S30 For Sale — Import From Japan
This is where the Fairlady Z started. The S30 was announced in Japan in October 1969 and built until 1978, and export versions went out as the Datsun 240Z, 260Z and 280Z. Japanese-market cars are right-hand drive, and most of them are 2.0-liter. The Z and the better-equipped Z-L run the L20 single-cam six on twin SU carburetors, rated at 130 PS on high-octane fuel. For the Z432 (PS30), Nissan used the Skyline GT-R's S20 twin-cam six. It was rated at 160 PS, and about 420 Z432s were built. Late in 1971 came the 2.4-liter Fairlady 240Z range, which included the 240ZG with its fiberglass "G-nose", headlight covers and over-fenders. The 240Z and Z432 both left production in 1973. A longer-wheelbase 2by2 (GS30) followed in January 1974. Fuel injection replaced the carburetors in 1975, and cars that meet the 1976 emissions rules carry the S31 code. On any S30, rust and originality decide the value far more than mileage does.

What to check on a Fairlady Z S30
- Look for rust under the battery tray, in the wheel arches, around the windshield and in the front fenders behind the wheels. Then check the rockers, floors and rear hatch surround.
- Fiberglass patch panels and heavy body filler over rust are common old repairs, so go over the body with a magnet and look from underneath.
- The model code should match the badge. A Z432 is a PS30, a 240ZG an HS30-H and a 2by2 a GS30. Nissan sold the G-nose abroad as a dealer option, so a nose alone doesn't make a ZG.
- On a car sold as a Z432, make sure the S20 engine is there and correct for the car. It's most of the model's value.
- Left-hand-drive cars returning from abroad, with an L in the code (HLS30, for example), are export Datsun 240Z/260Z/280Z models rather than Japanese-market Fairlady Zs.
- The S30 changed constantly during production, so if originality matters to you, check that the parts and trim match the build date.
What it costs to import a Fairlady Z S30
The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.
Is the Fairlady Z S30 legal to import?
Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact S30 you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.
How buying one from us works
We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

What do you check before buying a Nissan Fairlady Z S30?
Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: Look for rust under the battery tray, in the wheel arches, around the windshield and in the front fenders behind the wheels. Then check the rockers, floors and rear hatch surround; Fiberglass patch panels and heavy body filler over rust are common old repairs, so go over the body with a magnet and look from underneath; The model code should match the badge. A Z432 is a PS30, a 240ZG an HS30-H and a 2by2 a GS30. Nissan sold the G-nose abroad as a dealer option, so a nose alone doesn't make a ZG; On a car sold as a Z432, make sure the S20 engine is there and correct for the car. It's most of the model's value.
What is a Z432?
It's the Japan-only high-performance Fairlady Z, code PS30, fitted with the S20 twin-cam six from the Skyline 2000GT-R and rated at 160 PS. The name comes from 4 valves per cylinder, 3 carburetors and 2 camshafts. About 420 were built, which is why originality and documentation matter so much.
Is a 240Z with a G-nose a 240ZG?
Not always. The 240ZG itself (HS30-H) was a Japan-only model from late 1971 with a fiberglass nose, headlight covers, riveted over-fenders and a rear spoiler. Abroad, Nissan also sold that nose as a dealer option, and many 240Zs wear one. Go by the model code on the car's plate.
Fairlady Z or Datsun 240Z?
Both names cover the same S30, built for different markets. The export models were the Datsun 240Z, 260Z and 280Z, mostly left-hand drive and with larger engines. In Japan the Fairlady Z is right-hand drive. It was sold mainly with the 2.0-liter L20, along with the Fairlady 240Z range from 1971 to 1973 and the Z432.
