Toyota Soarer Z30 For Sale — Import From Japan

Toyota launched the Z30, the third-generation Soarer, in May 1991 and built it until 2001. It's the Japanese-market twin of the Lexus SC, and Calty Design Research designed the body. US buyers got the car as the SC 400 and SC 300, but Japan got more variety. The 4.0GT and 4.0GT Limited ran the 1UZ-FE V8 at 260 PS (265 PS from May 1995) until they were dropped in August 1997, and the UZZ32 version added Active Control Suspension and four-wheel steering. On the 2.5GT Twin Turbo (JZZ30), later the 2.5GT-T, the engine is the 1JZ-GTE, with twin turbos until August 1996 and a single turbo with VVT-i after, rated at 280 PS throughout. This turbo car was also the only Z30 offered with a manual, the R154 five-speed, and from August 1996 you could only get that on the base 2.5GT-T. The 3.0GT (JZZ31), with a naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE, joined in January 1994. Electro Multi Vision was available too, a touchscreen covering navigation, TV and climate. Enthusiasts look for a manual 2.5GT-T, and the V8 cars are the comfortable cruisers.

What to check on a Soarer Z30

What it costs to import a Soarer Z30

The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.

Is the Soarer Z30 legal to import?

Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact Z30 you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

How buying one from us works

We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

How long does it take to get a Toyota Soarer Z30 from Japan?

What do you check before buying a Toyota Soarer Z30?

Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: If the car has Electro Multi Vision, make sure the screen lights up and responds accurately to touch. It runs the climate and other functions, so the climate control should answer it; On a UZZ31, the air suspension's ride-height and damping settings should both work, and the car should hold its height overnight. A UZZ32 has no conventional springs or anti-roll bars to fall back on, so confirm its active system works with no warning lights; Early 1JZ-GTE turbos used ceramic turbine wheels that can delaminate. On a twin-turbo 2.5GT (up to August 1996), check both turbos for smoke and boost; Manual JZZ30s can be factory cars or conversions, and the full model code on the plate tells you which. The R154 was only offered on the 1JZ-GTE car.

Is the Soarer the same as the Lexus SC?

From the outside they're the same car, since the Z30 Soarer and the SC share the Calty-designed body. The Soarer had powertrains and configurations the SC didn't, including the 1JZ-GTE turbo with a manual and the UZZ32 active-suspension car, and it's right-hand drive.

Twin-turbo or VVT-i single-turbo 2.5GT-T?

The change came in August 1996, when Toyota switched the JZZ30's 1JZ-GTE from twin turbos to a single turbo with VVT-i. Power stayed at 280 PS. Toyota's figures put peak torque at 37.0 kgm at 4,800 rpm before and 38.5 kgm at 2,400 rpm after, so the later car pulls harder from low revs.
