Mazda RX-7 FC3S For Sale — Import From Japan

Every Japanese-market FC had a turbo. The FC3S is the second-generation Savanna RX-7, sold in Japan from October 1985 with the 13B twin-rotor and an intercooled twin-scroll turbocharger. The naturally aspirated FC was built for export. Output was 185 PS until the April 1989 facelift raised it to 205 PS with an independent twin-scroll turbo, lighter rotors and higher compression. That facelift also brought the round three-lamp taillights. The rear suspension is independent, with Mazda's toe-control hub, where the first generation had a live axle. You could buy the coupe as a GT-R, GT-X, GT-Limited or GT-Limited Special Edition (plus a base GT early on). Alongside those came the two-seat ∞ (Infini) limited editions, the 1991 Winning Limited and, from August 1987, the FC3C Cabriolet. Coupe production ended in 1991 when the FD arrived, though the Cabriolet ran on to a final edition in 1992. On any FC, the engine's condition matters more than trim level, mileage or paint.

What to check on a RX-7 FC3S

What it costs to import a RX-7 FC3S

The card prices above are what each car costs in Japan. The shipped price on a card is that car delivered to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included. We then clear it through US customs as your importer of record and handle the title, so there's no customs broker for you to hire. The full cost breakdown has the details.

Is the RX-7 FC3S legal to import?

Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year. If the exact FC3S you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

How buying one from us works

We bid at Japanese auctions and buy from dealer stock on your behalf. Before any money moves, the car is physically inspected in Japan, with photos, video, and a condition report, not just an auction sheet grade. After purchase we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title, so the car arrives ready to register. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

How many Mazda RX-7 FC3S for sale are manual?

Counting the 32 that list a transmission, 28 are manual and 4 are automatic.

Can I import a Mazda RX-7 FC3S to the USA?

Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. Of the cars in stock, 32 are from 2000 or earlier and qualify under the 25-year rule now. Month and year of manufacture are what count, and we check the exact build date before you commit.

How long does it take to get a Mazda RX-7 FC3S from Japan?

Plan on about 45–60 days from purchase. The car is inspected and exported in Japan, spends 3–5 weeks at sea to your nearest US port (East Coast, West Coast, Gulf and Honolulu), and then goes through US customs, duty and title. We handle every step as your importer of record.

What do you check before buying a Mazda RX-7 FC3S?

Every car is inspected in person in Japan before any money moves. On this chassis we look hardest at: Rotor health decides what an FC is worth, so ask for a compression test on both rotors with the figures recorded. Low readings mean a rebuild; The engine should start easily both cold and hot, idle smoothly and pull cleanly. Misfires or a lack of power can point to worn seals; Watch for blue smoke under boost and look for oil in the intercooler piping. Ask for oil change records too, since the rotary injects oil for its seals and has to be kept topped up; Try every gauge and switch, and the pop-up headlights. Autocar's guide warns that electrical items often fail because circuit-board solder can crack.

How do I tell an early FC from a late one?

Anything from the April 1989 facelift on is a late car. Those have 205 PS rather than 185 PS, an independent twin-scroll turbo and lighter rotors, plus round three-lamp taillights, body-color mirrors and revised suspension, seats and instruments.

Was there a non-turbo FC in Japan?

Not for sale there. FC3S coupes and FC3C cabriolets sold in Japan all used the turbocharged 13B, and the naturally aspirated FC was built for export markets, including the US.

What is an ∞ (Infini)?

It's a series of limited two-seat editions sold in Japan from August 1986. They had forged BBS wheels, dedicated dampers and an aluminum hood, and the later editions were rated 215 PS. Mazda counts seven limited runs through 1991.
