Honda Acty For Sale — Import From Japan

Honda's midship kei truck, 1977–2021, and the Acty Van

The Acty is Honda's kei truck, built from 1977 to 2021 with what Honda calls its midship layout: the engine sits under the bed, ahead of the rear axle, and drives the rear wheels, or all four on a 4WD truck. This page also has the Acty Van, which Japanese listings often call the Activan.

Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year. As of today, anything built October 2001 or earlier qualifies. Within a generation marked “phasing in” some build dates are legal and others are not, so the individual car matters. Tell us the chassis and we'll check its exact build date before you commit.

What it costs to import an Acty

Prices below are for the car in Japan. Each card also shows a shipped price, which is the car delivered to your nearest US port with ocean freight and export fees included. From the port, we clear it through US customs for you and title it, so you don't need to hire a customs broker. See the full cost breakdown.

Is the Acty legal to import?

Any vehicle 25 years or older is legal to import into the USA without meeting modern FMVSS safety or EPA emissions standards. Eligibility runs on the month and year of manufacture, not just the model year, so within a single generation some build dates qualify before others. If the exact car you want is not yet eligible, we can buy it and store it in Japan until it is. See the 25-year rule explained.

How buying one from us works

The cars listed here are for sale at set prices from dealers in Japan, so there’s no auction and no bidding (we can also find you one at auction). Ask for a quote on any car. If you’d like, we inspect it in person in Japan first and send you photos, video and a condition report; a refundable deposit books the inspection. Once you decide to buy, we handle export, ocean freight to your nearest US port, customs clearance, import duty, and US title if you want it. Typical timeline is 45–60 days from purchase to delivery.

Honda Acty FAQ

Is the Honda Acty legal to import to the USA?

TA / TC: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. HA1–HA4: Fully eligible — the entire run is 25+ years old. HA6 / HA7: Phasing in — cars built up to October 2001 are eligible now; the last cars qualify in January 2035. HA8 / HA9: Not yet — the earliest cars become eligible in January 2035. HH5 / HH6 (van): Phasing in — cars built up to October 2001 are eligible now; the last cars qualify in August 2043. Eligibility runs on month and year of manufacture, not model year — as of today anything built October 2001 or earlier qualifies. The year on a Japanese listing is the year the truck was first registered, not the month it was built, so we confirm the build date before you commit. If it's too new, we can buy it now and store it in Japan until it qualifies.

How much does a Honda Acty cost?

Counting the 148 Honda Acty in our Japan stock that can be imported today and list a price, prices run from about $688 to $7,451 before import costs, with a median of $2,694 and the middle half between $1,949 and $4,000. Shipped to your nearest US port, with ocean freight and export fees included, they start at about $3,568 and a median car comes to about $5,574. 68 newer cars, or ones we can't date yet, are left out of these figures. After that we clear it through US customs and title the car for you.

How many Honda Acty are for sale right now?

220 in Japanese dealer stock today (216 with a listed price, 4 price on request). It changes every day as cars sell and new ones get listed.

How many Honda Acty for sale are manual?

Counting the 220 that list a transmission, 195 are manual and 25 are automatic.

How long does it take to get a Honda Acty from Japan?

Plan on about 45–60 days from purchase. The car is inspected and exported in Japan, spends 3–5 weeks at sea to your nearest US port (East Coast, West Coast, Gulf and Honolulu), and then goes through US customs, duty and title. We handle every step for you.

What do you check before buying a Honda Acty?

Before you buy, we can inspect the car in person in Japan, with photos, video and a condition report rather than an auction-sheet grade alone; a refundable deposit books the inspection. We also check the build date against the 25-year rule.

Is the Honda Acty 4x4?

Many are. Honda added four-wheel drive in 1983, and the 4WD trucks carry their own codes: TC, then HA2, HA4, HA7 and HA9 (the 4WD vans are VH, HH2, HH4 and HH6). Before 1988 you switched it in by hand. Since then it has been what Honda calls Real Time 4WD: the truck runs in rear-wheel drive, and a viscous coupling brings in the front wheels automatically when the road gets slippery. The ATTACK farm grade adds ultra-low and ultra-reverse gears and a rear differential lock.

Where is the engine in a Honda Acty?

Under the bed, ahead of the rear axle, driving the rear wheels. Honda built every Acty truck this way, a layout it calls midship, so there's no engine under the seats. On the 1977–1988 trucks you reach the engine through a lid in the bed floor.

What is the difference between the Acty Truck and the Acty Van?

The truck has an open bed and the van a closed body on the same midship layout, and Japanese listings often call the van the Activan. The van stayed on its 1999 body (HH5 / HH6) until 2018, when Honda's N-VAN replaced it, long after the truck moved on to the HA8 / HA9 in 2009. The Vamos is the passenger version and is listed separately.
